Prosecution team formally enters appearance in Duterte impeachment trial

The House of Representatives’ prosecution team has formally entered its appearance in Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial at the Senate, with Batangas Rep. Gerville Luistro being named as the lead public prosecutor.

Documents shared on Monday by the House committee on justice listed the 11-person prosecution team, and asked that all communications and documents be furnished to Luistro.

The said document was submitted by House Secretary General Cheloy Garafil to the Senate at 5:32 p.m. on Monday — just after the Senate convened itself as an impeachment court.

“The undersigned members of the House of Representatives, duly elected by the House of Representatives as members of the prosecution panel, respectfully enter their appearance as Public Prosecutors,” the document sent to the Senate Impeachment Court stated.

“It is, thus, respectfully requested that, henceforth, all copies of all pleadings, resolutions, decisions, notices, and other processes of this Honorable Court be furnished to the Lead Public Prosecutor, Representative Gerville R. Luistro, at the following address and electronic email address indicated below,” it added.

The 11-person prosecution team was officially elected last Tuesday, May 12, featuring a mix of holdovers from the first prosecution team tapped when Duterte was impeached in February 2025, and new members.
